The International Dance Federation (IDF) was founded in 1995 by Wilma Beeslaar after she noticed there was a demand for a dance institution in the Pretoria area which would enable dance teachers to teach to the same high standards to which she was accustomed.
IDF started only with a few teachers and dancers, but the organisation has since grown and has currently over 22 affiliated teachers and their respective dance schools have in total approximately 1500 students, and growing in numbers each year.

The core functions of the International Dance Federation is to administer various exams, festivals and competitions and in the process maintaining a high standard for the following styles of dance:
Tap, Modern Dancing, Lyrical, Disco Jazz, Acrobatics, Hip Hop and Ballet.
